Our Views

In line with APABI’s vision of building up the quality and integrity of alcohol beverages in the Philippines, the Alliance continually engages with the public sector through ongoing dialogue, advocating for the development of evidence-based policies across the following themes: eCommerce, Taxation, Illicit & Counterfeit, Hospitality & Tourism, and Responsibility.

Responsible eCommerce

Since 2021, ABAPI and leading e-commerce platforms in the Philippines has committed to ensure the responsible sale of wines and spirits online by enhancing safegueard to prevent the sale and access of alcohol to people below the leagl drinking age.

ABAPI has closely aligned with IARD’s global standards for the online sales and delivery of alcohol. We proactively support eCommerce retailers and frontline delivery agents with online training tools that equip them with knowledge required to responsibly sell and deliver alcohol.

Taxation

ABAPI and its members is strongly committed to be responsible corporate citizens by ensuring that our products sold in the Philippines have paid the correct taxes. We aim to promote a tax environment which is fair, transparent and equitable by partnership with stakeholders to advocate for balanced tax systems that generate important revenue for the government whilst at the same time encourages economic growth.

Alcohol-in-Society

ABAPI supports and promotes responsible drinking and lawful sale of alcohol beverages globally. We believe that promoting responsible drinking is key to ensuring that our consumers can enjoy our members’ products and “drink better, not more”. Our programs includes addressing drink driving through the “Power of No” and enhancing and tackling underage access to alcoholic beverages for minor’s through the e-Commerce Pledge.

Illicit Trade & Unrecorded Alcohol

ABAPI is committed to working with stakeholders to raise awareness of the detrimental impacts of illicit and unrecorded alcohol. These products can harm consumer health and safety, and the brand reputation of legitimate alcohol producers. Furthermore, illicit & unrecorded alcohol sales has an adverse impact in government revenue collection meant for healthcare expenditures and programs.

ABAPI advocates for the adoption of non-discriminatory, evidence-based tax and regulatory measure to curb illicit and unrecorded alcohol sales in the country.

Hospitality & Tourism

ABAPI believes that alcoholic beverages, such as spirits and liquors, play an important contribution to developing hospitality, food & beverage and tourism industries as a whole. Our members’ products offer a unique opportunity for consumers to ‘trade up” their choice of drinks during a night out, thus encouraging the F&B to flourish.
